I have a super hero cape, I just wear it backwards. It's called an "apron".
I love my aprons. They are just a bit of fabric, but they keep me on the straight and narrow. They remind me of my duty.
It's got nothing to do with the clothing-protection factor. For that they are pretty much useless, actually. I tend to get all my muck on my knees (toddler face height) my shoulders (carried toddler face height) and my arms (the only bit Bug can reach when she's sitting at the table, covered in lunch, and wants some mum affection.) For some ironic reason, my apron tends to stay mostly clean.
I find it very difficult to slack off when I'm wearing an apron. I try to sit on the couch while wearing it, but then a massive feeling of the guilts washes over me and instead of spending a happy half hour on the web, I end up thinking about the washing that could probably do with folding, or the floor that needs a sweep...
When I write it like this it sounds like a burden, but there is nothing nicer than sitting down in the evening knowing that I've done a full days work at my profession of housewife. It's satisfying. It gives me a sense of pride. I enjoy my rest more because of it. And if I don't wear my housewife uniform, my apron, I struggle to reach this endstate.
So my apron goes on as soon as I'm dressed in the morning, and doesn't come off until the kids are in bed and it's time for me to rest, too.
Do you wear a super housewife cape?
